Am I to understanding correctly that when I delete the D drive (partition?????) it will restore the original size of the C drive?
Your disk will most likely show up with 3 partitions in the "Disk Management". A small system partition without a drive letter, the C: partition and the D: partition. Deleting the D: partition will free up space adjacent to the C: partition and will allow you to resize/grow it.

PS: Don't get confused with the wording. A partition is a piece of disk space which shows up as a drive in the guest OS.
